I have not tried the USB one I just got from dx.com at 128k or less but I will. I have Windows XP so not exactly the same. The programmer I use all the time is this one http://www.tuxgraphics.org/electronics/200510/article05101.shtml I have the hex file to program it if you want to try it. What I have done thought is not use the USB232 chip I put a max3232 in the TX RX of the mega8 & DB9 which makes it a RS232 device I then use a USB-RS232 cable on computers that do not have RS232 port I also power it from the board to be programmed thus have no voltage problems. My first one I built was on Vero board and it works very well I programmed it using the parallel port. Having the serial port on computers I think is a must have when debugging so I got both when I did this and have had 3 USB-232 adapters working at times. Since you have the ability to program the chip with the USB unit you have this would be a low cost thing to try. I will have a go tonight and see how low the programmers will go and let you know. Regards Paul
