BASCOM-AVR : RS-485 protocol help : NEWTOPIC

Hello all, i was wondering if someone here could shed some light on the RS-485 protocol, i have this project i need to work on, i'm not too familiar with this protocol, i have done many projects which involve RS-232 communications with various types of equipment and instruments. There's a couple of things i need to familiarize myself with, one of them is how to figure out the check-sum of the bytes received from the equipment i'm working with. number 2 i need to figure out how to translate the data received to what makes sense, so i can parse and work with the values needed. The Equipment is an industrial Uninterrupted Power Supply, the data sent is basically the status of the power supply, voltages, currents, power(W), etc.... I don't want anyone to write the code for me, i just simply need some tips and suggestions on how to get started with this, I know Bascom AVR has a RS-485 library which is based on ModBus, but as i mentioned above i'm really not too familiar with it, i have been reading and doing a lot of research and i understand the basics, i also need to write a interface in Visual Studio to interpret the data and display the data being read, if someone here can point me in the right direction i will really appreciate, i know there are lots of people here who know their stuff and i sincerely hope i get some replies on this post. Thanks everyone! [b:f93d356494][color=red:f93d356494](BASCOM-AVR version : 2.0.7.6 )[/b:f93d356494][/color:f93d356494]
