BASCOM-AVR : Compilation fails when > 249 DATA elements : NEWTOPIC

BASCOM-AVR v. 2.0.7.6. I'm trying to specify a DATA matrix of 256 byte values. This fails on compile, stating "invalid number of parameters" once I've specified more than 249 values. Is there a limit to the number of byte elements I can place in the DATA section (it surely is, but how can it be calculated - and how can I specify my 256 elements)? I couldn't find anything regarding this in the BASCOM-AVR documentation. Target is an ATtiny85. Furthermore, after an unsuccessful compile as stated above, BASCOM-AVR will no longer allow me to save the source file. Dialog "Error / Could not save file" appears when trying to save applied changes after receiving the above compile error. It seems that once this compile error has occured, my only chance to save my (revised) source file is via the File > Save As function. Annoying ... :( Any ideas & suggestions are welcome.
