Hi Paul,
Thanks for the offer, but I'm not impressed with the chip itself, like I said in the original post, I can substitute with a PCF8583 chip (which are cheaper), and it works straight away.
I don't even know why I'm struggling with the problem, a normal person would give it up as a bad joke, I'm just a bit weird like that.
I haven't even got a project for it.
It's just that when something doesn't work LIKE IT SHOULD, then I have to find out why. Hell, how hard can it be, +ve, -ve & 2 x I2C lines, it's not rocket science.
I'ts just that the price was right, you probably couldn't the the blank PCB for $2.68, let alone the clock chip (which doesn't work) an xtal and a 24c32 8kb EEProm, not to mention the other bit.
It is a truly weird one.
Anyway, I've arranged for four of the offending boards to be sent to Mark for scrutiny, and I'll await for the outcome of that.
But now that I got you here, I was trying to find your email address on one of your numerous posts so that I could have a chat to you about your web server.
See this site to contact me.
Thanks again for the offer.
Regards
Dean
In S.A. by the way.
