BASCOM-AVR : Why can't I buy a USB programmer that works in Bascom : REPLY

As promised, I am reporting on the cheap ASP programmer bought over ebay with the s/w controlled clock that supposedly supports slow clock rates. Below are some of the features advertised regarding its capabilities: "Support for AVRDude from version 5.2 onwards Allows you to to read or write the microcontroller EEPROM, firmware, fuse bits and lock bits Support for Linux, Mac OS X and Windows (will work on vista) 5 KB/sec maximum write speed Software controlled SCK option to support targets with low clock speed (< 1.5MHz) 10 pin ISP interface These programmers are a perfect companion to the Protostack 28 pin AVR Development Board or the Protostack ATMEGA8 Development Kit." Unfortunately it failed like the other one which had a link to support low clock rates. It worked OK on an ATtiny2313 with the internal clock RC oscillator possibilities of 8 and 4MHz but with the 128KHz, it couldn't recognize the chip. I don't understand why these programmers won't work with low clock rates. Is it because there is a very small market for low speed applications and this area is neglected? Can they be modified? So now I'll investigate the programming options that have been suggested in this forum and forget about these time wasting programmers. cheers Don
