To save all the trouble of the DS1307 which relies on the accuracy of a non calibrated crystal I prefer the RX-0825 it is fully calibrated with internal crystal and works from 1.7V to 5.5V it is similar to the DS1307 and I have written the code for it in http://www.mcselec.com/index2.php?option=com_forum&Itemid=59&page=viewtopic&t=10696 posts there and AN #196 - DotMatrix display
