[/quote:cdecaf3c90] Of course sending small packets allows for better response times, in that you get the opportunity to signal an error and ask for a re-transmit before too long, but that has nothing to do with the baud rate and its possible error. The baud rate error only accumulates across one byte, from the beginning of the start bit, to the end of the stop bit. After that, the timing starts again. That is why its possible to compute a max baud rate error, regardless of the length of the packet. You can see this by realising that there are ( usually ) 10 bits in a byte, and so an error of 1/2 bit time would be 5% of one byte time. After that you will definitely get errors, so 2% gives you a fair safety margin ( and allows for some error also at the other end ).
